Rotunda of Illustrious Men

Rotunda of "Illustrious Men" or "La Rotonda de los Hombres Ilustres" in spanish is a space to render tribute to the notable personages who wrote with their acts the glorious pages of the history of Jalisco. Designed by the architect Vicente Mendiola, the colossal work is composed by 17 fluted columns that do not present base nor capital, the same that maintains a quarry ring.

In the Rotonda de los Hombres Ilustres there are 98 niches to lodge the bodies of the illustrious men. Nevertheless, the majority is vacant. In addition, there are 11 copper statues of outstanding jaliscienses (works of the escultor Manuel Miramontes) and a pebetero in the central part. It was constructed in 1951. The Rotonda is located between the avenues Alcalde and Hidalgo and the streets Independencia and Liceo.
