Puerto Escondido

The hidden harbor or Puerto Escondido (in Spanish) is one of the more populated cities in Oaxaca. It is located in the coast of the state of Oaxaca, to 800 km to the south of the Mexico City and to 290 km of the capital, Oaxaca de Juárez. Puerto Escondido is located between Huatulco and Acapulco, in the pacific coast.

About the festivities, they are carried out from November 22 to December 1; considered as the most important festivity of Puerto Escondido; days with diverse activities and spectacles. Occasionally, fifteen days previous at the beginning of the festivities a party is organized to choose Miss Puerto Escondido, who will represent the celebrations of November. 22 Day is the beginning with a popular verbena; in the next dates, the program follows its course, emphasizing among other activities the match of fishing sport, the international match of surfing and the international competition “Miss Bikini” and “Miss Surf”. Also a gastronomical demonstration is carried out and cultural programs, matches of basketball, soccer, volleyball are organized, mixteca ball, pole in donkey and tennis.

The Playa Zicatela is one of the most important beaches; its name means “Place of great thorns” and has a length of 3 km. Its beauty captivate to the visitors, specially to Surfers, Zicatela is considered as the third beach at world-wide level for the practice of this sport, according to the height of the waves. At national level it occupies the first position.
